TIME FOR THE LEAF TO LIVE

The first project of "creating a place for a leaf (on a piece of paper)" is finally complete. I went into this very skeptical and almost felt that it was pointless; I'm not sure if my opinion ever changed.

I was befuddled with this project because I had no idea where to start! I knew that I wanted to create a more "rugged place" for my leaf, but I wasn't sure how. I didn't even have a leaf! However, that day, walking back to my dorm, I kept a keen eye out for any leafs that might add to the composition of the final project. I did find a few leaves, and the reoccurring pattern I found was that I was drawn to the leaves in the process of decomposition.

From there, I took both printer paper and trash paper and crumpled them up (for texture) and burned the edges (for an "older" look).  I took the multiple prototypes in for critique and came up with a final project... that I was still not confident in.

I ended up going for a half-and-half look; half of the leaf being in a "pocket" of the trash paper that was in a state of decomposition, and the other half was still fresh and crisp. This was to emphasize the process of decomposition, and the true beauty of something that was considered "dead".
